Stoney Lake is the jewel of Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes, a vacation paradise since at least 1856. Long ago, for Stoney Lake to become an attractive vacation destination for city dwellers, it had to satisfy three requirements. Since there were no cars, it had to be accessible by rail, which in turn required an industry. That industry was a granite quarry, and the lake had to have sufficient size to support a steamboat which took families to and from their summer homes, as well as a freighter for the granite mined at the quarry. The steam boat also served as a traveling post office and grocery store for the summer residents. The steam boat operated well into the 20th century, until the outboard motor became commonplace.
Stoney, with about 35 kilometres of shoreline and containing over 100 islands, was never landlocked, so its water is continually refreshed by many rivers and streams. It is part of a huge drainage system for much of Ontario, and in 1904 it became part of the Trent Canal System, which joins Lake Ontario with Lake Huron by a system of 37 locks capable of taking boats up to 30 meters in length.
Your cottage which is called Match Point is architecturally designed and a well appointed vacation cottage, completely insulated and usable in winter as well as summer. It was the first cottage on Stoney Lake to have its own tennis court. Built in 1970, the cottage and its surrounding property have been kept in impeccable condition.
This lovely cottage is set on a point of land with 200 meters of shoreline, and is part of a large island, so oriented, that most visitors believe Match Point to be a private island. Along with the main property there is a small island, connected with a picturesque suspension bridge. With a south facing view, great Canadian sunsets are a frequent treat. PLEASE NOTE: NO OUTDOOR FIRES PERMITTED ON THE ISLANDS!!!
